When you are in a therapeutic trance state, direct suggestions verbalized in a language and in a form that your subconscious understands are readily accepted by your subconscious mind. This is because, unlike your critical and analytical conscious mind, your subconscious mind takes things literally and concretely-sort of like the mind of a child. This is a very powerful adaptive phenomenon when both parts of your mind, your conscious and your subconscious, can be helped to work together in concert.
When you work with me, I use this underlying and guiding principle in your therapy. The goal is integrating both parts of your mind to work together in a cooperative manner to help you function well.
Direct suggestions in hypnosis, or DSIH, are a useful way for your therapist to “imprint”, or “fix in place”, beneficial ideas in your subconscious mind. When this is accomplished cleanly, your subconscious mind takes ownership of these beneficial therapeutic ideas. This is exactly what you want to happen. This is how you get better.
My goal in working with you is to replace the dysfunctional “fixed ideas” in your subconscious mind with functional “fixed ideas”. This is because the fixed ideas in your subconscious (we all have them so they might as well be good ones!) give rise to your feelings, behaviors, and experiences.
